Summer weddings are amazing – there’s so much sunshine, so much energy, and so much beauty floating through the air that it’s really hard to resist such an event!

Of course, if you are planning your own summer wedding in New York, you want to make sure everything about it is perfect – and food makes no exception. What are the foods you should not serve at your summer event, though? We have gathered some tips for you – so read on and find out more.

  • Anything that melts. Buttercream wedding cakes are amazing, but if you plan on having an outdoor event during the hot months of summer, they’re probably not a good idea. Unless you can somehow keep your cake inside, it’s probably best to opt for anything else (even a naked cake would be a better alternative).
  • Anything that smells. Don’t get us wrong, nothing’s more tempting than some sacre bleu cheese or a generous serving of shrimp, but these are not the kinds of food you want to serve at your outdoor summer wedding. No matter how well-cooked and fresh they may be, heat can easily turn them into a less-than-friendly source of odor – and that’s really not what you want your guests’ senses to feel when they approach the buffet.
  • Anything too warm. Let’s face it: there’s nothing better than a warm bowl of soup when the cool days kick in. In summer, though, you might want to search for a different type of appetizer (and there are plenty of other options to choose from). It’s not that your guests don’t love soup – it’s just that the warmth of it can cause discomfort when the temperatures are already high. If you really want to serve soup, think of a cold version (such as a Spanish gazpacho, for example).
  • Soda. This may come as a shocker for you, but soda is not really the best beverage to serve during summer days. Not only will it not hydrate your guests, but the sugar in it can attract a lot of flying “monsters”. A better alternative? Fruit-infused water and custom non-alcoholic cocktails served at the bar.
